Half Life of Sound Art

2026

What happens to a (sonic) place after sound art?
Two online experiments based on field recordings on Jeløya, Norway.
By Jonas Fritsch & Mogens Jacobsen.

How does the sound of sites change after sound art? How does our listening to these places change after having experienced sound art located in them?

We visited the sites of the Momentum Biennale a few days after the exhibition was taken down to explore the sonic spaces/soundscapes that are “left behind”.

The first experiment was recorded during the Momentum 13 Biennale 2025. The audio was recorded in the areas around Gallery F15. The recordings include sounds by artists Arendse Krabbe, Jo Kazuhiro, Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm, Louise Mackenzie, Stephanie Loveless & Jacob Kirkegaard.
The radius of the circles represents the distance from the Gallery F15 main building.
The audio tracks for the second experiment were recorded at the same locations, but two days after the biennale ended.
